Dance Grant Opportunities

 
 
 

Please read the below guidelines carefully to ensure eligibility.

SCHOLARSHIPS to a promising student for tuition toward professional training at a non-profit school with dance as a focused discipline located in the United States. Students must have been a dance major at the school for at least one year. Please note, grants are based on tuition costs only; no other expenses (i.e. room and board, materials, books, costumes, etc.) may be included. Students enrolled in dance education or graduate programs are not eligible for scholarships.

FELLOWSHIPS are available for salary assistance for a new, full-time artistic employee (not an apprentice) of a non-profit dance company. Nominee must have been under contract with the company for at least one year, and not more than five years at time of application. Professional non-profit dance companies must meet the following requirements:

  • Employ professional management staff
  • Have been in continuous operation as an independent 501(c)(3) company for at least 3 years
  • Have a total of 10 weeks of rehearsal and performance per year
  • Have demonstrated the ability to raise public and private funds

Application Components

 

Required from Nominee

  • Completed online application
  • Resume of nominee with dates of training and any professional employment 
  • Personal Statement: Please write a personal statement that focuses on one of the questions below. Not to exceed one page; minimum font: 12pt; 1” margins .
    • What was the most challenging experience you faced in dance, and what was the most valuable lesson you learned by confronting this challenge?
    • What do you wish to achieve in three years and how will you accomplish this goal?

  • Work samples: These samples are 2-3 solos featuring different choreographers, and representative of the past two years. Choose work that showcases the nominee’s range of artistry, skill and technique. Choose samples showcasing the nominee's artistry, scope of craft, skill, and technique. Work samples may be submitted via links such as Vimeo or YouTube. Submitted materials become the property of the Princess Grace Foundation-USA.
  • High res photo (300 dpi) of nominee suitable for publicity

Required from Nominator:

  • Nominator's recommendation: Please state why you consider this candidate outstanding and deserving of a Princess Grace Award, and how the candidate demonstrates his/her excellence and future promise to advance the field. Not to exceed one page; minimum font 12pt; 1" margins.
  • Grant Request Verification :
    • Tuition Verification (Scholarships only): Please provide verification of tuition from the bursar's office for the 2018-2019 school year, exclusive of room and board, living expenses, etc.
    • Salary Verification (Apprenticeships and Fellowships): Please provide a letter on company stationery verifying the requested grant amount for the applicant. The request amount is for the salary/artistic fee only, exclusive of benefits. Please explain your reasoning for the requested amount.
  • Scholarships Only: Schools should submit the following documents:
    • Description of program offerings
    • List of faculty
    • Copy of IRS determination letter certifying 501(c) (3) tax-exempt status
  • Fellowships Only: Professional Non-Profit Dance companies should submit the following documents:
    • Most recent financial and/or annual report
    • Copy of IRS determination letter certifying 501(c) (3) tax-exempt status
    • List of artistic and administrative staff, board of directors/trustees, and company members
    • Company description/mission statement

Work Sample Guidelines

 
  • Please make sure the link submitted is live and accessible by May 1, 2018 through July 31, 2018. We strongly recommend that that live streaming links be secure and the password provided to the Princess Grace Foundation-USA with passwords.
  • The total length of the work samples cannot exceed 10 minutes. Samples longer than 10 minutes will not be viewed.
  • One solo must be performed in a dance studio without costume (no living spaces, please).
  • One solo must be performed with costume. (Please make sure to frame the nominee clearly. The costume should not obscure the body.)
  • One sample must feature a performance solo where the applicant is clearly identifiable and visible throughout the performance. Note: footage from the back of the house where nominee is not clearly visible will NOT be considered.
  • Do not submit view media-enhanced, highly edited, or promotional-type submissions. Please do not use works edited with jumpcuts, dissolves, etc.
  • None of the samples may be the nominee’s own choreography.

** NOTE FOR DEVELOPMENT STAFF: Princess Grace Foundation-USA understands that development staff will often fill out forms for their nominee. Please start your nominee’s application using their email address and full name to create an account. DO NOT USE the login credentials used last year for this year’s applicant’s form or create a new nominee application using your email address. If you are nominating more than one person for different categories, please be sure to create a new user login for each applicant with their respective email addresses.
