Valerie Bischoff spent most of her impressionable life Reno, Nevada although filmmaking lured her to many corners of the globe including Denmark and South East Asia.  After receiving her B.A. in Film from the University of California at Santa Cruz, Valerie began working as a video journalist in Reno (NBC) and Sacramento (ABC).  In 2006, she was awarded the Fulbright Grant for filmmaking in Estonia where she created a documentary on disappearing Soviet history. Valerie is currently a M.F.A. candidate at Columbia University where she has been awarded several scholarships. Her previous short film, Veterans (2010) won the Adrienne Shelly Award for Best Female Director. Valerie was recently awarded the 2011 Princess Grace Graduate Film Scholarship for her thesis film Derby Kings - a rural Nevada story about two demolition derby driving brothers who struggle to reconcile their broken relationship.
