Jenna Caravello

Princess Grace Award:
Film Scholarship, 2018, Stephen Hillenburg Animation Scholarship

Jenna Caravello is a new media artist and animator based in Los Angeles. Her work explores the role that narrative plays in personal, collective, and digital memory. She uses traditional animation, often along with VR, CG, and video game platforms, to create projects that are immersive and laden with coded imagery.

Her animated films have screened at festivals internationally, including the Chicago Underground Film Festival, the Melbourne International Animation Festival, the Australian International Animation Festival, and the Eyeworks Festival of Experimental Animation, which presented additional screenings in New York, Rijeka, and Bologna.

Her motion-capture installations investigate the politics of personhood and avatars, including one social experiment project produced in 2018 for He for She, an initiative by UN Women, in partnership with CalArts.

When she isn’t focusing on films and immersive works, she enjoys collaborating with musicians to create music videos, which have premiered on NPR, Noisey (VICE), AdHoc, Gorilla vs Bear, Stereogum, Magnet Magazine, The Fader, and Impose Magazine websites.
