Katie Scherman
Initial PGF Award: Dance Scholarship, 2009
Katie Scherman was born in Southern California and began her training in Anaheim with additional studies at Ballet Pacifica, San Francisco Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, and Houston Ballet. At 15, she received a full scholarship to Ben Stevenson's Houston Ballet Academy where she danced with Houston Ballet II and in Houston Ballet productions. While in Houston, Scherman was featured in works by Ben Stevenson, Brian Enos, and Stanton Welch. In 2004, Scherman joined The Washington Ballet Studio Company where she was featured in works by Trey McIntyre, George Balanchine, Septime Webre, and Susan Shields. In 2006, Scherman joined the inaugural class of Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet Dominican University BFA Program. While pursuing her BFA, she has worked with Alonzo King, Yannis Adoniou, Gregory Dawson, Maurya Kerr, Marina Hotchkiss, Kara Davis, and Arturo Fernandez. Since moving to San Francisco, Scherman has had the privilege of dancing with Alonzo King's LINES Ballet in their Fall 2008 season, as well as dancing as a guest artist with the Central California Ballet in Fresno. Scherman has danced with Zhukov Dance Theatre in their 2008 and 2009 summer seasons, where she was nominated for an Isadora Duncan Award for Best Ensemble. Scherman is looking forward to sharing her art with new audiences and spreading the need for self-expression through the arts.
