Kaneza Schaal
Initial PGF Award: Acting Apprenticeship, 2008
Kaneza Schaal’s first professional performance was at age 6; she played a tree at a book conference and received 10 dollars. Seventeen years later, graduating from Wesleyan University, CT with a B.A. she digressed to performing for donations, co-creating, producing and performing in Manhattan apartments. She joined The Wooster Group in 2006, first working on the summer youth program then as Company Manager. Most recently Schaal performed in The Sound and The Fury with Elevator Repair Service at New York Theater Workshop (upcoming performances in Los Angeles, Hamburg, Lisbon, Amsterdam and Vienna). Schaal works as a teaching artist in both companies’ Arts-in-Education programs. She trained in Russia, Germany and Italy under the direction of Jurij Alschitz and Elizabeth Craven. Schaal is an associate of Porchlight Theater Company, CA; roles include Vera, A Month in the Country; Sonya, Wild Honey.
