Erica Lisette Murphy

Initial PGF Award: Animation Film Honoraria, 2008

Erica Lisette Murphy is concentrating in animation at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and works as a freelance artist and designer.  Prior to attending the SMFA, Erica studied theatre as a social outreach tool at Sarah Lawrence College.  She participated in outreach-oriented young women's touring theatre in Oregon for several years and has worked as an experimental theatre instructor for youth ages 7-13 within the Yonkers Public School system and the Durham Arts Council of North Carolina.  Much of what informs her current animated work comes from extensive stage, film, and television experience early in life.  She has been an actor, director, makeup artist, vocal coach and production assistant for several independent films and stage productions and worked as a storyboard artist in the field of corporate video production.  She is also a dedicated Americana roots musician, writer and performer.  A strong tie to women's issues as well as a connection to rural environments are common threads throughout each of her artistic endeavors.  Her animated shorts Mounte Bank (2007) and Morning Bird (2008) were each selected for the SMFA juried Film Annual Exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston.  This is Murphy's first extra-scholastic recognition for her animated work.
