Devan McGrath

Initial PGF Award: Film Honorarium, 2010

During his formative years in Portland, Oregon, Devan studied music composition and theatre. These interests led to a career as a performance artist, then to filmmaking as he created videos and interactive projections for shows with Portland's notorious queer punk theatre group, Sissyboy. Born of these collaborations were two parody films, "What Ever Happened to Fannie Mae?" and "Gay Gardens." Now enrolled as an undergraduate film student at Columbia College Chicago, Devan continues to refine his artistic voice, combining the campy, spontaneous elements of his early work with his interest in expressionism and layered narratives. His current project, "Vicious," is an exploration of political discourse, set against the backdrop of a war between bicyclists and drivers. In addition to the Princess Grace Award, the project received the Albert P. Weisman award. It will be released in 2011.
