Cheryl Williams

 

Cheryl is delighted to be making her debut with the New City Stage Company, having recently returned from Phoenix, where she’d been on tour as ‘The Narrator’ in the Act II Theatre Company’s phenomenally successful 2009 production of Respect: A Musical Journey of Women, a role which she’d reprised during that show’s extended residency at the Society Hill Playhouse, in 2010.   Locally, Cheryl’s also appeared onstage with The Mauckingbird Theatre Company, Temple University Theatres, PlayPenn, and the InterAct Theatre Company’s Writing Aloud program, as well as in the Lantern Theatre Company’s highly nominated production of The Breath of Life, for which she received the 2010 Barrymore Award for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Play. During the course of an extensive regional career, Cheryl’s worked with Chicago Dramatists, Chicago’s Court and Goodman Theatres, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, the Detroit area’s Purple Rose, Attic, Jewish Ensemble, and Meadow Brook theatres, as well as with The Human Race, Madison Rep and the Three Rivers, Antioch, New Jersey, Orlando and Illinois Shakespeare Festivals, to name a few.  She received her MFA in acting from Wayne State University, in Detroit, while performing in over three dozen productions as a company member of the Hilberry Repertory Theatre. A multiple nominee, and two-time recipient, of Best Actress honors for her work with Detroit area theatres, Cheryl is also proud to have been awarded a Princess Grace Theatre Fellowship for her work with the Attic Theatre, which enabled her to act with that company for an entire season, while also teaching at the Attic Conservatory and in the Detroit Public Schools.  In addition to Detroit, Chicago and Philadelphia, Cheryl has also lived in NYC and Dayton, Ohio, where she served as Artist-in-Residence for Sinclair Community College’s notable theatre program. While working in that capacity, her directorial debut production of Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure was selected as an American College Theater Festival Region III Finalist. Having also taught at Chicago’s DePaul University, as well as at Wayne State, and conducted ‘Shakespeare in Performance’ workshops for numerous professional theatre companies, Cheryl is currently proud to be an adjunct acting faculty member with the Temple University theatre program.
